The Department has excellent facilities for teaching and research in Modern Biology and Biotechnology, namely, Animal Cell Culture, Plan Tissue Culture, Fermentation technology, Microbiology, Immunology, Environmental Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Genetic Engineering.
The Fermentation Facility of the Department has a state-of-the-art facility for Bioreactors. It is equipped with practically the entire range of Bioreactors such as Stirred-Tank / Photo-Bioreactor / Air-lift / Fluidized Bed Reactors. Besides, the faculty engage actively in research and are in process of equipping the Laboratory further through research grants. Over the past couple of years, nearly 75 lakh of rupees have been obtained as grant from DST-SERB, DST, UGC and TNSCST. The laboratory is virtually open on all days through 24 hours a day to enable full-fledged research activities. That's why, the facility is considered most opportunistic by Post Graduate students. The department Library is equipped with 100 valuable subject oriented reference books for all cadres of the subject such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology & Immunotechnology, Metabolic Regulation, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Bioprocess Technology, Bioinformatics etc. The department has 24hrs Net surfing facility.
